December 04 - December 09, 2023

A week-long hackathon conducted by the Department of Bioengineering, Christian Medical College Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India.

Title
Objective
Objective

To provide a hands-on introduction to the dynamic field of NeuroRehabilitation Engineering to late undergraduate and early graduate students interested in designing, developing, and using technology for movement neurorehabilitation.

WHAT IS NEUROREHABILITATION ENGINEERING?

NeuroRehabilitation Engineering is an interdisciplinary field that merges engineering, neuroscience, and clinical expertise to comprehend and enhance the recovery of functions impaired by neurological diseases or injuries. Central to this discipline is the creation and advancement of technology aimed at enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Hackathon

The Hackathon will be a hands-on team project carried out at the Department of Bioengineering, Christian Medical College Vellore. This will be an opportunity for participating students to interact in person with researchers and clinicians in the field, along with persons with lived experiences.

Projects will be floated in the following topics:

  • Robotics in upper-limb neurorehabilitation

  • Sensor-based systems for physical interaction

  • Neurophysiological interfaces for neurorehabilitation

  • Movement measurement and analysis

  • Computer vision in neurorehabilitation

Organization
Eligibility
Who can participate?

Individuals with an interest in the development and utilization of technology for neurorehabilitation applications are invited to join us.

Our objective is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration for the co-creation of innovative solutions in the field of neurorehabilitation.

Eligibility is open to undergraduate and early graduate students from a variety of backgrounds, including:

  • Engineering and computer science

  • Rehabilitation and human movement sciences

  • Neurosciences

  • And more...

Professionals, such as engineers or physio/occupational therapists, seeking to gain experience in the development of technology for neurorehabilitation are also encouraged to participate.

Is a technical background required?

While the event revolves around technology design and development, having an interest and basic understanding of technology is beneficial. However, we actively encourage participation from individuals with diverse backgrounds, including those from both basic and applied sciences, even without a technical background. Your unique perspective and insights will be invaluable in collaborative development. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn from your technical counterparts, and they, in turn, can benefit from your expertise.
